Empirical Applications for Relations
Scientists and engineers working with channels within a region might utilize the graphical plots relating Bankfull Discharge and channel or watershed properties for empirical estimates of un-gauged sites. For example, if a location of interest along a channel is un-gauged, and an estimate of its Bankfull Discharge or geometry (e.g., flood depth) is needed, regional graphs provide an empirical comparison with other regional sites. Such estimates, however, are only first-order, and should be followed up with more precise geomorphological surveys and hydraulic modeling analysis.
